Description

The even, idealised face with curved brow, wide-open eye and almost straight nose is framed below by a closed beard (upper lip, cheek and chin beard) ending in six protruding corkscrew curls. On the top of the head the hair is divided into small hunchbacks, leaving the ear free and ending in longer curls at the nape of the neck. In the hair a laurel wreath tied with a bow at the back. On the bust armour and paludamentum.
The portrait corresponds to the so-called decennalia type, which was created on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the reign (from 202 AD). (AVS)
