Description

The A-side shows the procession of Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, led by Hermes, on their way to Paris to decide which of the three goddesses is the most beautiful.
The B-side tells the story of Aeneas' escape from Troy, leaving the burning city with his father Anchises on his back. The group of three is led by Aphrodite, the mother of Aeneas, whose depiction on this side of the vessel thus establishes a close connection to the A side with the Paris verdict. Behind Aeneas and Anchises a male figure in Scythian costume completes the picture. (AVS)
