Description

Objects of this kind were dedicated to the gods in the sanctuaries. The design language of this terracotta pot points to Rhodes. The island is considered one of the most important centres for the production of clay sculpture. Terracottas of this type have been known since the middle of the 6th century BC. (AVS)

Weibliche Kopfprotome. - Schmales, längliches Gesicht, mandelförmige Augen mit ausgeprägtem Lidrand. Über der Stirn breites "Haarband", darüber Schleier, der hinter den Ohren herabfällt.
