Description

For the Greeks, the pot-bellied figures, whose type goes back to Egyptian models, represented fertility gods or demons with evil-repelling power. Their Greek name is not known. However, they were very popular and were widely used between Cyprus and Sicily. (AVS)

Detailed description

Männliche Gestalt auf Plinthe mit leicht in den Knien eingeknickten Beinen. Zwergenhafter Wuchs. Angewinkelte Arme auf den dicken Bauch gelegt. Langes Haar bis auf den Rücken. Auf linker Schulter sitzt kleiner Affe, der linke Hand auf den Kopf des Mannes legt.
