Dionysus and Satyr (Double herm)

Description

This double herm was intended to be placed in the garden. It shows on the one hand the youthful Dionysus with curly hair and a crown braid and on the other hand an equally youthful satyr with shaggy hair and an ivy vine around his head. The ears under the hair are covered. Two teasels at the side. The original model of this herm is Hellenistic. (AVS)
