The interpretation of divine signs was one of the tasks of the haruspices in Etruscan religion. It is expressed in the disciplina etrusca. The traditions were strictly guarded by the priesthood. In order to preserve the disciplina etrusca, a senate decision was made in the 3rd century BC that a sufficient number of young men from the most respected families should learn the interpretation of signs so that this science would not be lost.
